Technology in Education ED 270 May 8, 2015 Literacies/Podcasts/iTunesU/GarageBand

We discussed the Eight Guides of Literacies from Ohio Education Association. We as a class used Socrative to answer formulate and answer questions. This was an easy way to see the results from a multiple choice and true or false questions anonymously as a class or teacher alone. As a future teacher, I can easily use this website to develop questions and determine where the class as a whole is on a certain topic. Do I need to re-teach what I just taught? Is everyone on the same page?

We then discussed the benefits of using Podcasts. Many of us would not think of using iTunes in a classroom, but Podcasts has audio recordings as well as visual videos that we can incorporate in our teaching lessons. Podcasts are easy to find and we can use this to develop a further understanding of a topic as a class. For an example, I found a video about earthquakes in the U.S. that was posted by PBS. This video had a lot of good information and visual clips to help us visualize the scenario. If I was having trouble coming up with creative ideas to teach a subject, I can easily look up Podcast videos to give me ideas.

iTunesU allows us to search for a channel, such as a school. We can listen to professor’s lectures through that.

GarageBand allows us to make our own Podcasts by recording our voice and adding sound effects. The benefit of doing this is the fact that our students can access our lecture or our recording at any time.
